BYC discusses Youth, Children, and Adolescent’s Rights during the orientation on Women and Children Protection

Under the Commission’s Youth Priority Agenda- Health, Education, Peace-building and Security, Governance and Active Citizenship, an orientation program organized by the Ministry of Health invited the office as one of the guest speakers to discuss on Youth, Children, and Adolescent’s Rights.

The event which anchored with the Department of Health’s Women and Child Protection Program envisions a gender-fair and violence-free community empowering women and children through institutionalizing and standardizing the quality of service.

The Commission which represented by Commissioner Nass Dunding discussed the rights of youth, children, and adolescent mainly in the context of BARMM to which he stressed the vulnerability of these sectors towards abuse and engagement to violent extremism groups both local and international  whether in times of conflict or pandemic.

Meanwhile, other offices also discussed topics which also give concern in protecting the rights of these sectors.

Ms. Helen Roxas representing the Office MP Hadja Bainon G. Karon shed light on Women’s Rights which included the following: Nationality, Employment, Suffrage, Property, Information, Health, Education, Marriage, Reproductive Health and the right to Freedom, Thought, Conscience and Religion.

On the other hand, the MILG provided its “Vaw Desk” a facilty addressing all concern on violence against women managed by the Punong Barangay located at the Barangay Hall, and the Children’s Code which was presented by the Ministry of Social Services and Development.

 In response to the said vulnerability, the discussion made mention on the provision that the Bangsamoro Government provided- the MSSD, Bangsamoro Autonomy Act no. 8 and 10 which give them special programs for empowerment, participation and development.

The program aims to prevent violence against women and children under the Republic Act 9262 Act of 2004 valuing the dignity of women and children and guarantees full respect for human rights. And the need to protect the family and its members particularly women and children, from violence and threats to their personal safety and security.

The Commission through the Bangsamoro Government expressed its commitment in safeguarding the these sectors through initiatives propagating the rights of every youth, children and adolescent across BARMM region.
