BYC urges youth to join Bangsamoro Youth Parliament 2021

COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) is urging the youth residing in the region to submit their applications in order to become delegates of the upcoming Bangsamoro Youth Parliament (BYP) 2021.

BYC Chairperson Marjanie Macasalong said the BYP 2021 is a capacity-building mechanism that aims to gather youth representatives from all provinces and sectors across the BARMM “to discuss the prevailing and emerging issues affecting the youth sector.”

Macasalong added it through BYP 2021, the delegates will crafting possible solutions to identified issues.

“These solutions will be developed into policy recommendations through a parliamentary context – in a way simulating the legislative process,” Macasalong added.

Republic Act No. 11054, otherwise known as the Bangsamoro Organic Law, the Bangsamoro Government recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building.

The BYC, created by the virtue of the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No 10 signed by BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, shall be the primary policy-making and coordinating body of the Bangsamoro Government.

The BYP 2021 will be held on December 8 to 11 in Cotabato City where 80 Bangsamoro youth leaders across the region will be gathered to be provided with skills on parliamentary procedures, advocacy and policy paper making, resource mobilization to the young parliamentarians, and capacity building for effective advocacy and lobbying.

With the theme “Kabataang Bangsamoro embodying the Bangsamoro Youth Transition Priority Agenda”, the BYP 2021 intends to unify the initiatives of the delegates through a series of discussions during committee and plenary sessions, focused on development and promotion of youth development policies and programs, anchored on the five centers of youth participation identified in the Bangsamoro Youth Transition Priority Agenda (BYTPA) 2020-2022.

Application requirements for the BYP 2021 include accomplished application form, a draft bill, and proof of age and residence.
