20 youth leaders participate in IIC mentors’ convergence program

MAGUINDANAO—Twenty youth leaders from Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Special Geographic Areas and the island provinces participated in the two-day activity dubbed BARAGUNA: Mentors’ Convergence on Wednesday, Nov. 18 to Thursday, Nov. 19 at Mindanao State University (MSU)-Maguindanao Graduate School, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

BARAGUNA: Mentors’ Convergence is the second component of Ideation Impact Challenge (IIC) 2021 that is being organized by the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through Youth Co:Lab, a regional initiative co-led with Citi Foundation and Makesense Philippines.

The participants underwent mentoring sessions from various learned and outstanding civil society organizations (CSO) and non-government organizations (NGO) based on their project’s objective and gaps in their operationalization.

The mentoring topics include organizational management, establishing rapport with the community, project management, gender sensitivity, partner and resource mobilization, and project sustainability plan, among others.

The youth leaders are qualifiers of the IIC from a list of hundreds of applicants who submitted project proposals for “positive community transformation.”

The project, ‘Ideation Impact Challenge: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, is a call for proposal for the youth who advocate for community peacebuilding and development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In this component of the program, BYC is in partnership with MSU–Maguindanao’s Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM).

Also present in the program were BYC Chairperson Marjanie Macasalong, BYC Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding and MSU-Maguindanao Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti Limbona.

The third component of the IIC 2021, dubbed SINDAW: Project Showcase, will be held from November 19 to 20 in Cotabato City. (BYC PR Section)
