SULU—About 60 youth leaders from different municipalities of Sulu participated in the Mandatory and Continuing Training for Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) and Local Youth Development Officers (LYDO) on November 21-22 at Sulu Provincial Capitol in Jolo.

The training, which was organized by the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) and the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), aims to strengthen and empower LYDC and LYDO as a useful conduit in community development.

“Inaasahan namin na mas maisasakatuparan pa natin ang ating mga tungkulin sa pamamagitan ng ganitong mga trainings,” said Assistant Chief of Barangay Community Affairs Division Alibaer M. Pangandaman in his closing message.

The training is dubbed ‘Engaging the SK, Empowering the Youth’ or ESKEY. It is a partnership program of the MILG and BYC which aims to empower youth by providing knowledge on various aspects of leadership and governance, and how these can be contextualized in the Bangsamoro society.

It is in compliance with the Section 27 of Republic Act 10472, otherwise known as the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, which provides that all Sangguniang Kabataan Official, whether elected or appointed, or any member of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) must undergo the mandatory training programs before assuming office.
