BYC joins public consultation for BTA Bill No. 53

COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), represented by Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding, joined on Monday, March 21, the public consultation for the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Bill No. 53, otherwise known as “The Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board Act of 2020” at the BTA Executive Lounge, Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.

The Bill seeks to create a Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board, which aims to ensure the integration and harmonization of economic, social, and environmental considerations as vital dimensions of sustainable development policy and practice in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

During the consultation, Commissioner Dunding has manifested several comments and recommendations on the said Bill, including the inclusion to the Board of the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta (BDI) and the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH); the creation of ex-officio members to the Board which will be composed of the Civil Society Organizations (CSO), the academe and the business sector; and the insertion of the word “youth” in Section 5, Paragraph B of the Bill.

Chaired by the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE), the Board shall be composed of representatives from the National Government and the Bangsamoro Government, including the BYC.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Dunding also manifested the Commission’s pleasure for its membership in the Board.

“We would like to manifest that BYC is glad of our membership in this long-term plan of the region, especially this Board,” Dunding said.

“Our presence here is the manifestation of our commitment in pushing for our role and in the passage of this Bill,” he added.

The public consultations, which started on March 17, were conducted by the Technical Working Group (TWG), chaired by Parliament Member Atty. Raissa Jajurie, under BTA Committee on Rules.

The TWG will convene again to discuss the output of the public consultations as well as the comments and recommendations from the policy papers. (BYC PR Unit)
