COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) celebrated its second year of creation and establishment through a Commemorative Program and Grand Iftar Kanduli held Wednesday, April 13, in Cotabato City.
The program and iftar form part of the BYC Week 2022 celebration that carries the theme, “BYC: Thriving for Excellence in Public Service for Bangsamoro Youth Today and Beyond in support of Moral Governance.”
On April 14, 2020, the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 10 was signed by Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim paving the way for BYC’s creation as the primary youth development arm of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Since then, its officials led several programs aiming at encouraging youth for participative governance and better social change.
In a statement, BYC Chairperson Marjanie Macasalong extended his gratitude to the workforce “for making the BYC as an institution of hope not only for youth but the whole of our stakeholders’ society.”
Macasalong reminisced the time when the Commission was still on its onset. He said one of the reasons for BYC’s success is the “very committed staff and volunteers who work behind the scene.”
“Sila ang tunay na nagtatrabaho for the sake of Allah, and for me, that’s the most powerful weapon,” Chairperson Macasalong emphasized.
“May we have more perseverance, dedication, patience, and most importantly commitment as we continue to traverse challenging routes for the days to come as one way of making jihad for the sake of Allah (SWT),” he added. “One day, these legacies of us would be written in the history of this Bangsa (Homeland) and we would be very happy that we were once part of it.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding said the commemoration program was one way of saying “thank you” to the BYC personnel and partner youth organizations for the successful journey of the Commission.
“Hindi magsa-success ang ating opinisina kung hindi dahil sa suporta niyo [at] pagsama niyo doon sa advocacy that we have and the community we serve,” Commissioner Dunding noted.
The program was attended by BYC regional and provincial personnel and over 200 youth champions from different accredited youth organizations.
The BYC Week is celebrated every month of April to commemorate the creation of the Commission and its important milestones.
Also present in the program were Yunus Türkmenzade from Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), Atty. Nadz Ebrahim and some executives from Al-Jalis As-Salih, Inc. (AAI) and Union of Muslim Youth Organizations (UMYO).
The BYC is an attached office to the Office of the Chief Minister that provides leadership in policy-making and coordination of programs and development efforts for the youth in the region. (BYC PR Unit)
