Officials of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) met Thursday, April 21, in Cotabato City, with the Justice and Society Project Team of the Support to Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRA) to explore possible areas of collaboration.
The meeting was attended by BYC Chairperson Marjanie Macasalong along with Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding and Technical Services Division Chief Fatimah Mandangan; and SUBATRA’s Justice and Society Project Team Leader Atty. Gilbert Sembrano along with the Team’s key personnel Marilyn Limbing-Trabal, Carol Pascual-Sanchez and Marcela Ciriaco.
The meeting resulted in the potential collaboration of both entities in the achievement of meaningful Transitional Justice, the creation of the Bangsamoro Youth Code and the Bangsamoro Youth Development Plan, and widening and deepening of the impact and reach of BYC’s programs for the youth.
The SUBATRA’s Justice and Society Project aims to contribute to a peaceful, cohesive, secure and inclusive Bangsamoro through the establishment of democratic governance that allows a smooth implementation of the Bangsamoro transition.
The Project specifically provides support for the realization of justice provision of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), which is to administer justice in accordance with “the unique cultural and historical heritage of the Bangsamoro people” while ensuring that the administration of justice is aligned with the Constitution and other relevant national laws, Shari’a and traditional or tribal laws, as well as the international human rights standard.
SUBATRA is a 5-year program funded by the European Union (EU), and co-financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), that aims to help the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) lay the foundation for lasting peace and development by strengthening its institutions’ democratic governance capacities during the transition period.
