MYCA advocates agricultural expertise among youth

COTABATO CITY — An official of the Moro Youth Catalyst Association (MYCA), Inc. highlighted their programs that encourage youth participation in promoting and developing the agricultural sector in Sulu.

During the Bangsamoro YoutHours’ 25th episode, Thursday, June 23, Hadeja Sakiran, president of MYCA Inc., said the organization envisions capacitating the youth, especially the young farmers by providing them with relevant mechanisms that will enhance their expertise in the agricultural sector.

MYCA is an organization consisting of students, young professionals, and volunteers who are mostly in the agricultural field. The organization aims to provide a variety of job opportunities for the agriculture graduates including the farmers in Sulu. It encourages the youth in entrepreneurship and rural development.

Among its initiatives emphasized the knowledge development for the youth in the agronomical field. This includes educating the youth on field-crop production and soil management.

It also conducts programs centered on strengthening religious affairs, including in the programs are series of symposiums and lectures, iftaar for madrasah and various Islamic institutions, and hijab distribution, among others.

MYCA also participates in community efforts, where they distributed school supplies and other prizes during the Hari Raya celebration; conducted feeding programs, community clean-up drive, and took part in the relief distribution for the victims of the C130 plane crash in Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu.

Sakiran stressed the importance of capacitating the youth in the agricultural sector since the province has been verified by the experts as a place with a vast opportunity in land cultivation and crop production.

“Kinakailangan pong ma-empower ang ating mga youth sa larangan ng agrikultura dahil magbibigay po ito sa kanila ng hanapbuhay. Sa halip na tayo ang kukuha ng mga supply sa ibang lugar, ay magiging tayo na ang exporter ng sarili nating produkto kung ito man ay mas mapaiigting pa,” Sakiran said.

Bangsamoro YoutHours streams every Thursday, 4 PM to 5PM at the Facebook pages of Bangsamoro Youth Commission and Bangsamoro Media Productions and airs at DXAE FM 99.7 MHz radio station in Cotabato City. (BYC PR Unit)
