SYNet strengthens peace initiatives in the BARMM region

COTABATO CITY (July 4, 2022) — An official of the Sulu Youth Network (SYNet), Inc. encouraged fellow youth to participate in advocacies that help sustain the gains of the peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

During the Bangsamoro YoutHours’ 26th episode, Thursday, June 30, Alnidzmar Tahir of SYNet, Inc., said the organization aims to empower youth by providing different capacity development programs designed to enable the youth become partners in sustaining the peace in the Bangsamoro.

Registered in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the SYNet is an umbrella organization comprising different youth organizations based in Sulu. It was established in 2013 when the then Coordinating and Development Office on Bangsamoro Youth Affairs (CDO-BYA) conducted an activity to form leagues of youth organizations.

The organization centered its advocacy on youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, peace and development, environmental protection and climate change mitigation, and education.

SYNet has conducted basic entrepreneurship skills training in collaboration with BYC Sulu and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism (MTIT) Sulu. Participants were imparted with the fundamental knowledge to develop their understanding of the basics of business.

They also launched Children Community Library targeting the Balik Barangay or the people who are affected by the recurring armed conflict particularly the youth and children by providing educational materials, and toys that also serve as a psychosocial intervention to aid their traumatic experiences.

Moreover, SYNet has submitted their Eco-Bridge Project, a project proposal focusing on environmental conservation. It encourages youth to participate in waste segregation, and tree planting, among others.

Meanwhile, they also work collaboratively on religious-focused activities that include a series of symposiums and lectures, iftaar for madrasah and various Islamic institutions, and Pagsumadja or strengthening ties with the community and other youth-serving organizations.

Tahir emphasized the crucial role of the youth in the Bangsamoro, saying that working to attain peace should not only be done by the leaders but instead a duty of every Bangsamoro, especially the youth.

“Our significant contribution to continuing the peace is our time and effort. We should not forsake our leaders in doing this job alone. Let us always look for possible ways to give a hand. Let us include ourselves in the process,” he stressed.

“Makilahok tayo ngunit huwag nating kaligtaang alamin kung bakit tayo nakikilahok. Huwag lang basta sumali bagkus alamin natin ang bawat bagay bago natin ito ipaglaban. Nakikilahok tayo dahil parte tayo ng komunidad, dahil parte tayo ng Bangsamoro,” he added.

Bangsamoro YoutHours streams every Thursday, 4 PM to 5PM at the Facebook pages of Bangsamoro Youth Commission and Bangsamoro Media Productions and airs at DXAE FM 99.7 MHz radio station in Cotabato City. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
