BYC to mark IYD with several activities

COTABATO CITY (August 9, 2022)—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) has launched several activities for the two-week long celebration of the International Youth Day 2022 starting on August 1.

Among the activities include distribution of relief packs to vulnerable youth across the region and opt-in areas under the ‘Lingkod Kabataang Bangsamoro’ as part of its efforts to lessen the adverse effects of the pandemic from August 1 to 5.

Another activity, the Adoloscent and Youth Policy Consultation with UNICEF, which aims at formulating polices encircling the interest
of children and youth by providing platform for their active participation and collective voices in various issues and concerns that directly affect them.

The consultation will also pave the way to form recommendations and suggestions in the creation of the Bangsamoro Development Plan (BDP) 2023-2028. The said activity will be held in Cotabato City on August 8, and in Iligan City on August 11-12.

On August 8, BYC Lanao with Marawi City led the Values Transformation Training which promotes the significant roles of values and morality towards holistic development of an individual. It provided the youth with necessary knowledge to help them transform themselves as agents of change in the community.

Meanwhile, BYC Basilan with Lamitan City have conducted Social Media Education and Training on Journalism and Photography on August 8.

The activities intend to hone the youth with necessary knowledge and skills in media and information literacy, and the use of different tools and platforms to enhance their communications skills, and counter misinformation.

BYC Maguindanao with Cotabato City and Special Geographic Areas will be organizing the 1st Youth Leadership Conference on August 9. This will convene youth advocates from different areas of Maguindanao and nearby areas to exercise their leadership skills and discuss pressing issues in their respective communities.

Simultaneously, BYC Lanao with Marawi City will hold the Youth Accredited Organzations and Beyond 2025 where youth organizations are informed on the accreditation process, and the opportunities they can get including the submission of resolutions to the BYC en banc.

Moreover, the en-banc meeting, which is composed of five commissioners from mainland and island provinces will convene to discuss various resolutions, accomplishments, plans and current status of the commission in relation to its mandates.

The Bangsamoro YoutHours will air its 32nd episode featuring active youth leaders to amplify their voices and efforts for their fellow youth. Partner ministries and institutions are also invited to highlight several opportunities for the youth.

Highlight in the celebration is the 3rd State of the Bangsamoro Youth Address or SOBYA which falls on 12th of August, where the Chairperson addresses thousands of youth to present the Commission’s significant accomplishments and challenges, and the programs that will be implemented in the future.

The observance of IYD provides an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young people’s voices and efforts.

This year’s celebration bears the theme, “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages,” which aims to amplify the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
