COTABATO CITY (Sept. 09, 2022) – The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) Tawi-Tawi conducted Peace and Environmental Youth Camp (PEYC) 2.0 in partnership with Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) of MSU Tawi-Tawi on Saturday, September 10, 2022 in Sanga-Sanga, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
PEYC is an annual initiative of the commission which aims to provide awareness on environmental issues, and strengthen youth engagement in promoting culture of peace through cultivating life skills that increase youth participation in the policy making process relating to peace and environmental advocacies.
“The Bangsamoro Youth Commission is the primary policy-making and coordinating body of the Bangsamoro Government in matters affecting the youth. That’s why we ensure compliance therewith by all ministries, agencies, offices, and other instrumentalities of the Bangsamoro Government that are mandated to implement programs, projects, and activities affecting the youth of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region,” said BYC Commissioner Pratima Sabal-Samsaraji during her remarks.
“Though we are not an implementing agency, we implement activities, projects, programs in order to collect consolidated recommendations from the youth as to what policy the office could pass to the En Banc,” Commissioner Samsaraji added.
LtCol Charlie S Caña PN(M) discussed Conflict Prevention and Management Initiatives highlighting the role of the youth in peacebuilding efforts. Claudette R. Kingking of IPDM MSU Tawi-Tawi discussed the youth’s role to take to eradicate bullying and harassment in their community.
Meanwhile, Environment Officer Maruji of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources along with IPDM Director Madzween Joy De Asis-Omar, and Youth Champion Crisol A. Jasani were interviewed on the relation between Peace and Environment, and Ecological Peace Conflicts.
Also present during the event were Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) representative Manuel Kamaro. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
