Youth advocate shares learning experiences as an international student

COTABATO CITY (Sep. 20, 2022)— A Bangsamoro international student shared his experiences during his academic days in Turkey on Bangsamoro YoutHours’ 35th episode on Thursday, September 8.

Hamdan Ahmad Yacob, member of the Moro International Student Association, and a graduate of Master’s in Plant Production and Technology, highlighted his notable experiences as an international student in Turkey.

He said that studying abroad gave him ‘challenging, yet fulfilling’ experiences starting off with his struggles in learning the Turkish language as a mode of instruction of every subject taught, social and cultural differences including beliefs, behaviors, practices, and other challenges he encountered during his stay.

Moreover, homesickness is also an inevitable challenge that most international student encounter. One of his coping mechanisms that helped him lessen his homesickness was to encircle himself with other students and befriending other nationalities.

Meanwhile, studying abroad also helped him to develop his self-esteem, and learned and appreciated different cultures and perspective of different people.

Yacob, in his parting message, encouraged his fellow youth to take part in providing efforts in sustaining the gains of the Bangsamoro.

“Let us impart our efforts in bettering our Bangsamoro Government. Let us also not forget to take good care of our environment. It is a gift from the Almighty that we will also be held accountable of,” he emphasized.

Bangsamoro Youth Hours streams every Thursday, 4 PM to 5 PM at the Facebook pages of Bangsamoro Youth Commission and Bangsamoro Media Productions and airs at DXAE FM 99.7 MHz radio station in Cotabato City. (BYC PR Unit)
