BCPCH holds several activities on Bangsamoro History Month

COTABATO CITY (March 7, 2023) — The Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) is currently holding several activities in celebration of the Bangsamoro History Month.

On Bangsamoro YoutHours’ 45th episode, on Thursday, March 2, Senior History Researcher Esnaira Samama Salem underscored several activities in the celebration of the Bangsamoro History Month which is observed annually throughout the month of March.

Through Proclamation No. 01, series of 2021 issued by Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim, March was declared as “Bangsamoro History Month.”

Bearing the theme, “Enhancing National Unity by Mainstreaming Bangsamoro History”, the month-long celebration aims to commemorate the long history of the Bangsamoro in pursuit of peace and the right to self-determination. It also encourages people to take pride in their history and identity.

Bangsamoro History Month is observed as a recognition to the remarkable occasions that took place in the Bangsamoro history pursuant to its quest for peace and right to self-determination.

Moreover, it is declared as it holds several equally significant events in the history of the Bangsamoro such as the Jabidah Massacre on March 18, 1968; Bud Dajo Massacre on March 5-7, 1906; and Dansalan Declaration on March 18, 1935.

The signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro also happend on 27th of March 2014 at the Malacanang Palace; and the Inauguration of the BARMM and Inaugural Session of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority on March 29, 2019.

Among the activities that BCPCH holds are Tiktok Infomercial Contest for Junior and Senior High students, Essay Writing Contest for BARMM Regional Employees, Focus Group Discussion with Bangsamoro Elders, and the Bangsamoro Calendar where Bangsamoro Martyrs are featured.

Samama said that youth should learn their history as it is essential in the formation of their identity.

“Their identity formation is very much shaped by what in the past. The milestones we have reached right now would not be possible without the events of the past — our martyrs who sacrificed their lives and those who gave their efforts for the Bangsamoro,” she said.

BCPCH is an office mandated to write the Bangsamoro history. It is the primary institution in preserving the history, culture, arts, tradition, and rich cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people across the region. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
