COTABATO CITY (April 24, 2023) – The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) together with the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) held a refinement workshop on the modules being used for Sangguniang Kabataan Mandatory Training (SKMT) on April 19- 20 in Cotabato City.
Chief Cecilia T. Pelobillo of MILG’s Barangay and Community Affairs Division said the refinement workshop aims to review the existing module in order to determine and finalize contextualized topics and learning materials to be included in the training.
“The training is necessary for our youth officials to further internalize their roles and responsibilities,” she added.
Considering the peculiarity Bangsamoro region’s context, MILG Director Fausiah R. Abdula underscored the inclusion of priority agenda of the regional government in the modules.
“Apart from incorporating the national agenda, we also have to give emphasis on the priorities of our region especially its battlecry on Moral Governance,” she noted.
Meanwhile, BYC Youth Development Officer Settie Ivy Ampatuan emphasized the need to inform youth regarding Mandatory Training.
“On boarding our staff from Commissioner’s offices will contribute further in the improvement of our module since there is already an established clear line of coordination between BYC and MILG,” she added.
The Technical Working Group is set to have follow up meeting and to finalize the contents of the training modules.
Since 2021, the Commission and MILG have successfully trained hundreds of youth officials from different areas of the region.
The training is in preparation for the upcoming Barangay and SK election scheduled on October 30.
Undergoing the training whether elected or appointed is necessary for SKs and LYDC members before assuming office. Deliberate failure to attend the said training may constitute sufficient ground to disqualification or subject to disciplinary actions pursuant to Rule V of the Republic Act No. 10742 or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015.
