COTABATO CITY (May 16, 2023) — To enhance their knowledge of their role in peacebuilding, 40 youth leaders, school and Madaris teachers underwent peace education and conflict sensitivity training in Cotabato City on May 15-16.
The Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society (CBCS) conducted the two-day activity in partnership with the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) as part of its CBCS SUBATRA project, in support of various peace efforts in the Bangsamoro region.
During one of the sessions, BYC representative Sohaila Macadato, who served as a resource speaker, lectured on mainstreaming youth participation in the development process, highlighting the programs, projects, and activities of BYC where youth can engage actively.
The participants also underwent several learning sessions, including understanding violent extremism in the BARMM context, peacebuilding, preventing violent extremism in the Islamic context, and integrating peacebuilding into formal institutions, among others.
The second installment of the activity will take place on May 18-19 in Zamboanga City for participants from the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
BYC provides leadership in formulating and initiating regional policies and plans, setting priorities and direction for promoting and developing youth programs. (BYC PR Unit/KAA)
