Chairperson Macasalong’s Message during Empowerment through Self-Defense Training

Audhu billahi minashaytan nir rajim. Bismillahi rahmanir raheem.
Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu!

Violence against women and girls remains a pervasive issue in our society, and it is our responsibility to advocate for the empowerment of our fellow youth, our fellow young women. This is where Empowerment through Self Defense comes in where we can equip ourselves with the necessary skills to address any type of violence directed towards us.

ESD Asia Pacific aims to establish training for empowerment self-defense as a vital strategy to prevent violence, intervene in violent situations, and facilitate recovery from interpersonal violence.

In line with Bangsamoro Youth Commission’s goal of promoting positive youth development and leaving no one behind, I strongly believe that ESD can play a significant role in empowering our youth, especially women, to protect themselves from any form of violence.

ESD courses are unique in that they were founded by women, for women and provide practical skills to respond to risk situations, including boundary violations, sexual harassment, and assault. These courses also address the emotional and psychological aspects of violence, which are integral parts of the training.

Empowering ourselves with self-defense skills is not only important for our safety but can also help boost our confidence and self-esteem. It can help us feel more in control of our lives and give us the courage to stand up for ourselves and others in any situation. By participating in ESD programs, we can also build a supportive community of like-minded individuals who share our commitment to positive youth development and leaving no one behind.

As young leaders of the Bangsamoro, it is our responsibility to advocate for the empowerment of our fellow youth. By supporting and participating in ESD programs, we can contribute to creating a safer and more secure environment for all. Let us work together to empower ourselves and each other, and to leave no one behind.

Wa billahi tawfeeq wal hidayah. Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu!
