BYC embarks on benchmarking activity with NYC

QUEZON CITY (May 29, 2023) — Officials and employees of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) embarked on a two-day benchmarking activity with the National Youth Commission (NYC) on May 23-24, in Quezon City.

BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong said the activity aims to identify the best practices, processes, and strategies employed by NYC, which in turn can also be used by BYC to improve its operations.

“By examining the best practices, strategies, and programs implemented by the National Youth Commission, we can learn valuable lessons that will guide us toward more effective and efficient endeavors,” Macasalong said.

Macasalong added that the activity was aimed at achieving goals that are far-reaching and impactful which will enable the Commission to take proactive steps to elevate the competitiveness and enhance the opportunities available to the Bangsamoro youth.

The benchmarking, Macasalong emphasized, signifies BYC’s commitment to the youth of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). “It is a testament to our dedication to empowering our young generation, improving their opportunities, and creating an environment where they can succeed and excel,” Macasalong said.

NYC Chairperson Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema said both Commissions can learn from each other’s experiences, innovations, and approaches, and adapt them in operations to foster continuous learning and improvement.

Noting that what NYC does is for the Filipino youth, Chairperson Cardema added these interventions are conducted to “inspire them and channel their idealism and energy towards nation-building.”

Together with BYC Chairperson Macasalong were Basilan Commissioner Hamdie Tanjil, MagCotSGA Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding, Sulu Commissioner Mohammad Faisal Ali, Tawi-Tawi Commissioner Pratima Sabal-Samsaraji, and several employees of BYC.

On the other hand, also present were NYC Commissioner-at-Large Laurence Anthony Diestro, Luzon Commissioner Reena Vivienne Pineda, Mindanao Commissioner Alexa Danielle Dayanghirang, and Executive Director Leah Talde Villalon.

During the second day, discussion was made to identify and improve current points of engagement and collaboration between the two, especially on the matters of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two commissions. A technical working group will be formed to directly work on developing the said mechanism.

The benchmarking activity was made possible through the aid of Support to Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRA) Programme. (BYC PR Unit/RMM)
