COTABATO CITY (June 13, 2023) – Sittie Sakhira Dambong, member of the RAP-YPS Technical Working Group urged her fellow youth to take part in the final roll out of the survey for the Bangsamoro Action Plan on Youth Peace Security (BAP-YPS), scheduled from May 29 – June 9, 2023.
During Bangsamoro YoutHour’s 52nd episode, on Thursday, June 8, Dambong emphasized the significant contributions of the youth in taking part for the RAP-YPS survey as it is necessary for designing peacebuilding mechanisms.
“The participation of the youth to the RAP-YPS survey is needed in order to gather their insights and their contributions to conflict resolutions and peace-building. This will help our policy-makers to craft policies and initiatives that are more responsive to the needs of our youth,” she said.
Meanwhile, a pilot survey was recently conducted in March which was participated in by around thirteen BYC youth accredited organizations.
The results of the survey were presented during the 4th workshop meeting on May 19-21, in Davao City where TWG members provided insights and recommendations to enhance the said tool.
Meanwhile, the results of the final rollout will be presented to the government agencies and relevant institutions, with its final launch scheduled for mid-2023.
The said mechanism is established under Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS), which was adopted unanimously by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on December 9, 2015.
The resolution is the first to recognize the important and positive role young women and men play in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security.
It identifies five key pillars for action: participation, protection, prevention, partnerships and disengagement and reintegration.
This landmark resolution urges Member States to give youth a greater voice in decision-making at the local, national, regional and international levels and to consider setting up mechanisms that would enable young people to participate meaningfully in peace processes. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
