COTABATO CITY (July 12, 2023) – The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) conducted its three-day Training-Workshop on Gender Planning and Budgeting (GPB) on July 10-12, 2023 at Alnor Convention Center, Cotabato City to ensure that men and women will benefit equally in the implementation of development of programs and projects.
The three-day workshop was aimed at developing draft GPB and accomplishment report, and application of gender and development (GAD) tools such as harmonized gender and development guidelines (HGDG).
Youth Development Officer Fatimah Mandangan said that the Commission is currently making efforts to advance GAD-related endeavors.
“Activity like this is a manifestation from the Bangsamoro Youth Commission that we are one in the endeavors of the Bangsamoro Women Commission [BWC] when it comes to promotion and mainstreaming GAD-related agenda,” Mandangan said.
BWC Development Management Officer Lyndon Enriquez shed light on the importance of policy imperatives on Gender and Development (GAD), gender mainstreaming concepts, and HGDG.
On the other hand, BWC GAD Specialist Rohaniya M. Sumail discussed GAD Planning and Budgeting (PB) and Guide in completing the GAD planning and budgeting template.
The development of annual GAD plans and budgets, and accomplishment reports are needed in order to properly implement the provisions of Republic Act 9710 otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women. Under the law, government agencies are mandated to spend at least five percent of their total budget on programs, projects and activities that will close the gap on gender disparities.
Several employees of the Commission attended the said training-workshop. (BYC PR Unit/SAMN)
