BYC concludes FGD series for drafting of BARMM Youth Code in Tawi-Tawi

The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) concluded the series of focus group discussions (FGD) for the drafting of Bangsamoro Youth Welfare and Development Code (BYWDC) in the province of Tawi-Tawi on August 28.

Representatives from various youth sectors, including youth farmers, the Provincial Youth Development Office, the Local Youth Development Office, women, academia, fisherfolk, Indigenous Peoples (IPs), youth-serving organizations, young professionals, and the youth religious sector, participated in the series of discussions.

During the sessions, participants openly shared their concerns and issues regarding the welfare and development of Bangsamoro youth in the province. Their contributions provided valuable insights essential to the institutionalization of the code.

The region-wide series of FGDs started in Cotabato City and Lanao in mid-August, continued in Basilan and Sulu, and concluded in Tawi-Tawi in late August.

The BARMM youth code stands as landmark legislation that will establish a comprehensive framework to safeguard the rights of the youth, ensure their holistic development, and facilitate their meaningful participation in decision-making processes within BARMM.

The draft youth code is expected to be finalized in November 2023. (BYC PR Unit/SAMN)
