BYC’s 2024 budget hurdles subcomm scrutiny

COTABATO CITY (November 16, 2023) — The proposed budget of Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) for 2024 has hurdled the scrutiny of a Parliament panel on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in this city.

Ministries, offices, and agencies of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) undergo a budget hearing from several subcommittees of Bangsamoro Parliament’s Committee on Finance, and Budget and Management (CFBM).

SubCommittee C Chairperson MP Atty. Jose Lorena said the committee supports BYC’s proposal because they are allocated in developing the Bangsamoro youth across the region.

BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong said the P97.7 million budget proposal aligns with the Commission’s core mandates of policy-making, coordinating, and evaluation body for the Bangsamoro youth.

Members of the Parliament Denmartin Kahalan and Amroussi Macatanong also joined the hearing and threw queries on the Commission’s efforts to help the youth sway away from violent extremism and radicalism, as well as programs for in-school and out-of-school youth.

MP Lorena has also pushed for additional plantilla staff for BYC in 2024 to help the Commission increase its worksforce productivity.

The CFBM budget hearing for BYC is also slated in Novermber or early December. (BYC PR Unit/RMM)
