COTABATO CITY (November 20, 2024) — The Bangsamoro Youth Commission has secured a P106 million budget allocation for fiscal year 2025, following approval by the Bangsamoro Parliament’s Finance, Budget, and Management Committee. The funding will support a range of programs aimed at empowering youth across the BARMM region.
In his presentation, BYC Chair Marjanie Macasalong emphasized the importance of directing resources toward youth initiatives not only within the BYC but also in collaboration with other institutions in the region.
“One of our concerns is how we can mainstream youth programs, ensuring that all young people feel connected and engaged with the projects and opportunities available to them,” he said.
“We want them to better relate to our initiatives, strengthening their participation and helping them connect more deeply with the positive changes we aim to create.” he added.
Meanwhile, MP Aida Silongan urged the BYC to inspire the youth to uphold and promote the Bangsamoro narratives.
“We are not stopping here; we have come a long way, but there is still a long journey ahead of us. Let us not forget the sacrifices made by our forefathers,” she stated.
The approved budget will enable the BYC to enhance its advocacy for youth empowerment, fostering greater youth involvement in community development and civic activities. This initiative is aligned with the region’s broader efforts to actively engage youth in shaping their communities and contributing to the region’s overall development.
The funding will also support key initiatives, including stakeholder and partnership development, public engagement programs, and the Bangsamoro Youth, Peace, and Security Program, all designed to strengthen the role of youth in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development throughout the region.
