COTABATO CITY – On its new episode, the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), in collaboration with IMARC Pyschological Testing and Wellness Center elucidated the significant role of mental health experts in providing assisstance to those who experience mental related concerns.
The session, dubbed Who you? knowing the mental health professionals, Carmencita Teresa Costales Cang, a certified psychologist and pyschometrician, enlightened the distinct responsibilities of mental health practitioners in accordance to its specified responsibilities as most people generalize the said profession.
Further, Dr. Cang explained mental health as established by the World Health Organization defining mental health as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his potential, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can contribute to one’s community.
She also said that mental health encompasses an individual’s emotional, pyschological and social being where the ability to manage emotions and behavior in various situations are manifested.
The emergence of dysfunctionalism in cognition, Dr. Cang emphasized, such as lack of concentration, difficulty in decision making, lose of interest etc. whether in personal, occupational, or scholastic factor signifies the need to visit a mental health practitioner.
In the discussion, quoting from the World Health Organization, 264 million people globally suffer from depression and other mental health issues which most of its victims are from women.
In the Philippines, a study provided by the Department of Health states that six million Filipinos experience depression and anxiety in which 20 percent suffer Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
Dr. Cang concluded the discussion leaving her message that mental health concern is a global phenomena, and that mental health is important to both stable and unstable individual and should not hesitate himself going to the experts to acquire information concerning his well being.
