BYC participates in PVEE peace conversation

COTABATO CITY—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) participated in the Honest Conversation for Peace on Preventing Violent Extremism through Education (PVEE) on Tuesday, January 18 at Royal Hall, Pagana Kutawato Native Restaurant, Cotabato City.

The program was conducted by Equal Access International – Philippines (EAI-PH) under the Communities and Schools Leading in the Fight against Terrorism (CS-LIFT) project, which is implemented in partnership with the Department of Education (DepED) Region 12 and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE).

During the discussions, BYC representatives Aira Hazna Ampatuan and Sohaila Macadato presented the Commission’s programs and activities on preventing violent extremism, such as forums on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), regional and provincial Youth Peace and Security (YPS) consultations, and peace and interfaith dialogues, among others.

The conversation was aimed at increasing understanding of policymakers and institutions engaging in PVEE, exchanging current working practices, challenges, and opportunities among organizations, and consolidating policy and programmatic recommendations in strengthening PVEE in Basic and Higher Education.

Through the CS-LIFT project, the EAI-PH intends to build capacity of youth networks, schools, teachers, religious leaders, and the media to reduce the appeal of terrorist recruitment and radicalization efforts. (BYC PR Unit)
