Application for BYP 2022 officially opens

COTABATO CITY (August 24, 2022)—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) has officially announced the opening of Bangsamoro Youth Parliament 2022 on August 24, at SKCC Complex, Bangsamoro Government, Cotabato City.

The Bangsamoro Youth Parliament, which will be on November 7 to 11, is a capacity-building mechanism that aims to bring together youth representatives from all regions and sectors across the Bangsamoro Region to discuss current and emerging issues affecting the youth sector, with the goal of crafting possible solutions that can then be developed into policy recommendations in a parliamentary context, simulating the legislative process.

It provides a platform for the BYC to confer with or solicit ideas or proposals from the youth in a productive and meaningful dialogue that culminates in the approval of BYP bills that can be forwarded to the regular Bangsamoro Parliament.

Some 80 youth parliamentarians from across the BARMM and outside areas will be admitted from a rigorious screening of applications that will close in October.

These Bangsamoro youth leaders will be gathered to be provided with skills on parliamentary procedures, advocacy and policy paper making, resource mobilization to the young parliamentarians, and capacity building for effective advocacy and lobbying.

BYC has organized the first-ever Bangsamoro Youth Parliament last December 9-11, 2021 and produced ten significant bills that reflects the collective solutions of young people in the issues and concerns they are facing. The said bills are adopted by the BYC en-banc through a resolution.

The Commission will recognize delegates’ noteworthy youth policies, as well as young advocates who may be partners for long-term youth development. As a result, one of the BYP’s innovations will be the awarding of “Outstanding Youth Development Policy.”

This year’s BYP with the theme “Bangsamoro Youth in the Transition: Upholding the Gains of Peace and Moral Governance” aims to bring together the delegates’ initiatives through a series of discussions in committee and plenary sessions focused on the development and promotion of youth development policies and programs, anchored on the Enhanced 12 Point Agenda of the Bangsamoro. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
