COTABATO CITY (September 12, 2022)—The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) attended the Bangladeshi‐Southeast Asian Women and Youth Peace Exchange on Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, in Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka, in Bangladesh.
The four-day training was participated by BYC’s development management officer Rodolfo Matucan, Jr. along with 25 participants from different members of ASEAN countries from various sectors, including Young Women Leaders (YWL) in Bangladesh, and youth leaders from Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Matucan discussed the Characteristics of Effective Advocacy Campaign where he shed light on developing effective youth-led community-based advocacies.
The training was designed to deepen awareness and understanding of the Rohingya crisis among South East Asian women and youth leaders and the political position of the ASEAN.
Moreover, it aims at building and strengthening solidarity between South East Asian and Bangladeshi women and youth peacebuilders and activists, and formulate a sustainable advocacy strategy with the ASEAN to protect the rights of Rohingya women and girls and all ethnic minorities in Myanmar and abroad.
The said event featured the following programs: Workshop on Rohingya Refugee Crisis: Context, Status, and Key Actors; Dialogue with Rohingya Refugee Community and Courtesy call to the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner; Workshop on to prepare Bangladeshi‐Southeast Asian Joint Youth Advocacy Plan; The Bangladeshi‐Southeast Asian Joint Youth Advocacy Forum with Canadian High Commissioner.
The said initiative is under the Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) in collaboration with the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP).
GNWP advocates with governments for the implementation of laws and policies that promote and protect women and girls’ rights and works with men, boys, and gender-equality allies to support women and girls’ empowerment, leadership, and rights. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
