COTABATO CITY (October 24, 2022)– The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will launch the Bangsamoro Action Plan on Youth, Peace, and Security (BAP-YPS) in November 2022.
This came after a final review of the draft was held by members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on October 15-16, in Davao City.
The two-day meeting was convened under the directive of BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong to fast track the launching of the document which aims to provide a venue for the Bangsamoro youth to freely interact and work together for better understanding of the context of peace and conflict.
A series of consultations with youth leaders were held across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2021 to collect their perspectives and situations on peace and security. Earlier this year, TWG members were also convened to discuss the findings of these consultations that would contribute to writing the document.
BAP-YPS also provided opportunities to discuss potential policy agenda or recommendations for peace promotiton in the region.
BYC Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding, co-leading the secretariat with the UNDP, presented the plans of actions including policy roadmap from the end of the BYC in the lenses of policy recommendations and formulations in making the plan more engaging from bottom to top levels of the government in general.
Members of the TWG were from different areas of the region and other representatives from communities outside the region, indigenous peoples, and settlers youth in achieving the goal to have an inclusive action plan.
The said document also aims to guide both policymakers and service-providers in integrating and adopting the action points in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs that will address or contribute to addressing the needs articulated by the youth. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
