COTABATO CITY (November 2, 2022) — The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) through the Office of BYC Tawi-Tawi Commissioner Pratima Sabal-Samsaraji held the 1st BARMM Tawi-Tawi Youth Parliament on October 28-30, at Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College in Bongao.
The youth parliament is a capacity-building mechanism that aims to bring together youth representatives from different areas of the province to discuss current and emerging issues, and craft bills based on the youth agenda within the context of Tawi-Tawi.
The youth parliament, Commissioner Samsaraji said, aims to delve youth in the policy-making process by exposing them into drafting resolutions, and experience the first-hand parliamentary system approach highlighting the Robert’s Rule of Procedure.
It was participated by 80 delegates from youth organizations, Municipal Local Development Office (LYDOs) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President from different municipalities.
BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong said the youth play an important role in pursuing the best for their respective communities.
“We envision a great future ahead for us. Our goal is to generate a multitude of young people that are sincere, dedicated, and have a heart for the Bangsamoro as a whole,” he added.
Commissioner Samsaraji emphasized the significant role of volunteerism in molding the ways and values of the youth.
“Despite the challenges we faced, it did not hinder us to pursue this endeavor. This is the result when we embody the spirit of volunteerism. I, myself, as your Kakah started my voluntary work as early as seven years old,” Samsaraji said.
“We hope that you also embrace volunteerism as it will help you in understanding more of the sentiments of our Bangsa, and make you appreciate the efforts of our fellow Bangsamoro,” she added.
The activity was concluded through a ceremonial turn-over of the approved bills and resolutions. These will be endorsed to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, specifically to the Committee on Youth, for proper action. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
