BYC, MBHTE, DepEd to co-design Youth Formation in BARMM

COTABATO CITY (November 4, 2022)–The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), the Ministry of Basic Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), and the Department of Education held a meeting today, Friday, November 4, at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, in Cotabato City, to co-design Youth Formation in the region.

The meeting aims to discuss the collaborative efforts among concerned offices in designing the Youth Formation Mechanism and create a platform towards holistic implementation of basic education that engages both in-school and out-of-school learners in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong said the formulation of the Youth Formation is significant in shaping the youth’s future in the region.

“We are glad of these efforts– from a revolutionary perspective, we believe that this can’t be done overnight just like how we pursue peace in the region. However, being able to achieve and establish this initiative will possibly contribute in providing the future we want for our youth,” Macasalong said.

Meanwhile, BYC Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding emphasized the Commission’s will in structing collaboratively of the said initiative.

“We have been examining our engagements both with the in-school and out-of-school youths. Simultaneously we engage into school and community-based organizations. However, as per assessment there are gaps we have to look into. That is why, designing mechanism to engage our youth in the educational lens is also one of our major concerns in our youth agenda,” Dunding said.

“As the policy-making and coordinating body, we would like to see our common line in order to clearly determine our involvement in the process,” he added.

Dan Paul Santos, head of Special Concerns of DepEd’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Youth Affairs and Special Concerns stressed
the significant role of the offices in determining challenges and opportunities in structing the program.

“We would like to strengthen appreciation of the youth formation particularly its framework both from the national and local institution. Our combined efforts will help us work out effectively and collaboratively in establishing this initiative. And so that we can provide necessary assistance from our end,” he said.

The concerned parties are looking forward to continue exploring possible collaborations in structuring the framework of the Youth Formation.

Youth Formation endeavors to provide youth-serving units and organizations with responsive, learner-centered, youth-oriented policies, standards, guidelines, programs, and projects which shall contribute to the holistic development of learners who are value-driven, career-oriented, culturally-rooted and socially responsible.
