COTABATO CITY (November 9, 2022)—Young Members of the Parliament (YMP) held their inaugural session Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Cotabato City following election of regional officers.
YMP Jerimy Edubos from the province of Tawi-Tawi was elected as Speaker, while YMP Mohammad Said Abu-Ali from Marawi City and YMP Abrar Hataman from Basilan were elected as Deputy Speakers for Mainland and Island Provinces, respectively.
YMP Ayesha Warid from Sulu was elected Secretary General; YMP Talal Maronsing from Lanao del Sur was elected as Majority Floor Leader; and YMP Asnairah Disoma from Lanao del Sur, and YMP Halid Pandulo from North Cotabato were elected as Sergeant at Arms.
During the inaugural session, 80 young MPs started discussing their Rules of Procedure (ROP) for the Bangsamoro Youth Parliament (BYP) 2022 – The 13th National Youth Parliament Regional Assembly for BARMM.
The YMPs also received lectures and discussions on Youth and Leadership in Islam by Sheikh Qardhawie Bin Salik of Union of Muslim Youth Organizations (UMYO), The Bangsamoro Peace Process and the Role of Young Parliamentarians by Mohammad Abqary Alon of United Voices for Peace Network, Inc. (UVPN), BYC Mandate and the Bangsamoro Youth Transition Priority Agenda (BYTPA) by Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding, and Policy Formulation and Lobbying by Atty. Ronifelle Barrios, who also serves as Resident Parliamentarian.
With some amendments to the ROP on Wednesday morning, YMP Fhatima Salama Sundang from Cotabato City was appointed as Minority Floor Leader, and YMP Jasim Bantuas from Marawi City was appointed as Deputy Secretary General.
Cabinet Secretary Moh’d Asnin Pendatun also gave discussion on BARMM’s accomplishments in the past three years. He stressed that the Government of the Day is committed to deliver and pass the mandates of the interim BARMM government, that include passing of important codes of the region.
The second regular session was also opened on Wednesday morning, and was later suspended to proceed to committee sessions after referral of bills. (BYC PR Unit/RMM)
