COTABATO CITY (May 8, 2023) — Employees of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) started crafting its Communication Strategy Plan during a three-day workshop on May 3 to 5, in Cotabato City.
BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong said developing a comprehensive communication strategy helps the Commission communicate its vision and mission to its identified audience and stakeholders.
The BYC, which was established in 2020 to represent the youth sector in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), recognizes the importance of engaging and informing its constituents about its initiatives, programs, and policies.
The communication strategy planning, Macasalong added, was aimed at enhancing the commission’s communication channels to promote transparency and accountability in its governance.
Macasalong added that developing the plan is among organizational strengthening efforts of BYC and forms part of the bigger institutionalization direction of the Commission.
During the three-day workshop, participants worked together to define the commission’s communication goals and objectives. The participants also identified key messages and target audiences and developed strategies to effectively communicate them.
Public Relations Officer Rahib Musa said the plan will springboard the development of other necessary communication policies and guidelines that include a design and brand manual, social media guidelines, feedback and feedforward mechanisms, and social media management protocols, among others.
The BYC aims to use the communication strategy developed to engage more young people in the BARMM and promote their participation in the region’s governance through policymaking and other relevant interventions.
Musa added that the Commission believes that a well-planned and executed communication strategy will help it achieve its goal of creating a more inclusive and participatory governance system in the Bangsamoro region.
BYC is committed to working closely with its stakeholders to implement its communication strategy and achieve its goals. The commission hopes that this initiative will inspire other government agencies and organizations to prioritize effective communication practices in their governance.
There will be refinement and finalization workshops slated for June to completely develop the plan. (BYC PR Unit/RMM)
