COTABATO CITY (October 23, 2024)– Key officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) held a dialogue with the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in Cotabato City. The meeting focused on several key topics related to children’s rights and welfare in the region.
Minister Atty. Raisa Jajurie of the Ministry nof Social Services and Development (MSSD) presented the agenda, which included an overview of the Bangsamoro region, a discussion on the legal and policy framework concerning children, and an assessment of the status of children in BARMM. Attendees also reviewed a summary of actions taken for children’s welfare and explored opportunities for collaboration and support among various offices and development partners.
Moreover, attendees discussed opportunities for collaboration and support, allowing BARMM officials and development partners to explore potential partnerships and resources to enhance efforts for children’s rights and improve living conditions in the region.
The dialogue emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between BARMM officials and UN representatives, as part of ongoing initiatives to support children’s rights amid the region’s complex socio-political landscape.
Chairperson Marjanie Macasalong of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission underscored the Commission’s continued commitment to supporting MSSD and other partner agencies in advancing the free birth registration efforts in the region.
It was concluded with a commitment from both sides to continue working together to address the pressing issues affecting children in the region.
