BYC Basilan holds 2nd Peace and Environmental Youth Camp

COTABATO CITY (July 1, 2022) — The Bangsamoro Youth Commission Basilan with Lamitan City along with partner institutions conducted 2nd Peace and Environmental Youth Camp Tuesday, June 28 at KZ Wisa, Luksumbang, Lamitan City, Basilan.

The two-day activity, which was participated by 52 youth leaders from different municipalities of the province, is an annual initiative of the commission which aims to provide awareness on environmental issues, and strengthen youth engagement in promoting culture of peace through cultivating life skills that increase youth participation in the policy making process relating to peace and environmental advocacies.

BYC Commissioner Hamdie Tanjil for Basilan with Lamitan City emphasized the significance of youth participation on environmental concerns as part of sustaining the gains of the peace process.

“As an ambassador of peace and hope of the future generation, we encourage you to expose yourself in this kind of activity in the prospect of peace and development not only in your community but also in our country in general”, he said.

PCF Jefquin M. Tabamo (INF) PA discussed Peace and Order, where he stressed notable quotation from Albert Einstein, “Peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, a law, of order-in short, of government.”

Meanwhile, Jordana Kadija Castillo and Michaella representing MENRE lectured on the importance of planting mangroove trees as it helps restore the overall health of the earth as it aids in groundwater recharging, chemical transport prevention, and flood prevention.
