COTABATO CITY (November 26, 2022) –The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), along with various ministries and offices participated in the kick-off ceremony of this year’s 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW), on November 25, in this city.
Spearheaded by the Bangsamoro Women Commission, the campaign bears the theme, “United for a VAW-free Bangsamoro,” which aims to raise awareness and eliminate all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls.
BYC Chair Marjanie Macasalong, in his remarks, expressed his commitment towards providing mechanism that will further the voices of women especially in the youth sector.
” We, in the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, as the policy-making and coordinating body affecting our youth, strongly and sincerely express our commitment to help our women and children be uplifted and heard,” Macasalong said.
” Kami po, kasama ng ating mga kabataan, ay katuwang nyo sa pagkampanya at pagbigay impormasyon ukol sa mga pang-aabuso at hindi makatuwirang pagtrato sa ating mga kababaihan,” he added.
The Kick-off Ceremony highlighted the 4th State of the Bangsamoro Women
Address (SOBWA), which emphasizes the significant accomplishments of the Women Commission relating to women programs and initiatives.
The campaign is pursuant to Proclamation 1172, Series of 2006 which declares November 25 to December 12 of every year as the “18-Day Campaign to End VAW.”
By virtue of Republic Act 10398 or the Act declaring November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, government agencies are mandated to raise awareness on the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
It is also in keeping with Republic Act No. 10398, Series of 2012 which declares November 25 of every year as the “National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAW and Children.” (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
