COTABATO CITY (Jan. 4, 2023) — The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) will soon hold several research-based programs and activities in 2023 aimed at generating baseline and measurable data sets that will serve as one of its primary references in programming, lobbying, coordinating, and policymaking.
BYC Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong said that these programs will help the Commission understand the contexts and dynamics of the Bangsamoro youth, which will help the Commission perform its mandates.
Among these programs include the Bangsamoro Youth Assessment Study, a policy-oriented assessment research project that aims to encapsulate young people’s broad and dynamic social contexts in the region.
The study, which will begin in March, will look at the social lives of young people in key areas, especially in the nine centers for participation that the National Youth Commission has picked out.
The result of the study will be the basis of the Commission in developing the Comprehensive Bangsamoro Youth Development Plan (CBYDP) and leading the crafting of Bangsamoro Youth Welfare and Development Code (BYWDC).
The CBYDP is a far-reaching consolidation of the development outcomes and agenda of the BYC for its youth constituents from 2023 to 2028. Meanwhile, the youth code is a policy mechanism that secures the protection of young people’s rights, welfare, and development in the region.
Employees of BYC will also undergo capacity building on policy development and research agenda setting composed of a learning circuit that will open rooms for benchmarking, learning exchange, practical knowledge building and mentoring with renowned policymakers, and legislative institutions in the region and country.
There will be a specialized and targeted course that will aim to allow selected employees of the Commission to acquire the necessary skills and practical knowledge necessary in carrying out their functions in light of its policymaking mandate. (BYC PR Unit/AAA)
