COTABATO CITY (February 1, 2023) — Several employees of Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) joined the celebration of World Hijab Day on February 1, 2023 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Center, Cotabato City.
Spearheaded by the Bangsamoro Women Commission (BWC), the celebration bears the theme “Progression, Not Oppression,” which aims to promote understanding, respect, and acceptance of women who wear the hijab.
During the celebration, Chairperson Bainon G. Karon encouraged all women in the region to spread awareness and advocate the proper way of wearing the hijab.
“I would like to encourage all the Bangsamoro women not just in the BARMM but throughout the country to see yourselves as true models for properly wearing your modest dress and hijab especially the women in the region who are bringing the advocacy,” Karon said.
Dignitaries from different BARMM agencies and ministries also graced the event by expressing their full support to the said celebration.
The celebration is held annually to recognize hijab as a symbol of religious freedom and equality.
