BYC Chairperson Marjanie Macasalong’s message on 2023 National Women’s Month

Audhu billahi minashaytan nir rajim. Bismillahi rahmanir raheem.

Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu!

Life is full of significant events, some of which deserve to be remembered. As the month of March marks a defining moment in our quest for gender equity and inclusion, it allows us to reflect on the road ahead of us.

National Women’s Month is celebrated in March, and we honor and recognize the contributions of women to our society. The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) participated in this celebration through a series of activities that promote diversity and representation, resulting in a more inclusive society.

This year’s theme is “WE for Gender Equity and Inclusive Society,” which aims to promote fairness and equity towards consistent progress to create an atmosphere that is inclusive for everyone.

Women are the personifications of wealth and power. As mothers, wives, educators, and leaders, they play multiple roles. During the peace process in the Bangsamoro region, women played critical roles as advocates and peacebuilders. Their contributions include community building and nation-building, as well as advocating for and promoting inclusion, peace, and equality.

As we celebrate, we would like to wish all women, Moros or not, in the Bangsamoro region, a meaningful Women’s Month. Let us remember, respect, and admire the amazing women in our lives. Let us celebrate their achievements and determination to create a society free of all adversities for women.

We recognize the significant contributions and ongoing efforts of Bangsamoro women, especially the young ones, in the region’s development. We must ensure that young women’s voices are heard, that their rights are protected, and that their desire to participate in and lead decision-making is encouraged.

I, as the Chairperson of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, would like to express my support for the work of our Bangsamoro women and encourage everyone to be confident as we work together to deliver the ideas and resources the region requires at this critical time.
