BYC Chairperson Marjanie Mimbantas Macasalong’s message on 2023 Bangsamoro History Month

Audhu billahi minashaytan nir rajim. Bismillahi rahmanir raheem.

Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu!

The month of March gathered us to commemorate and celebrate our peculiar history and identity as Bangsamoros. We recognize the struggles and sacrifices of our ancestors, who fought for our right to self-determination and paved the way for us to have our own government that gives us brighter future.

Our history is not just a collection of events that happened in the past. It is the foundation of our unique identity, our culture, and our society. By understanding our history, we can appreciate the struggles and triumphs that made us who we are today.

As we look back on our history, we cannot deny that our people have faced numerous challenges and setbacks. The Bangsamoro struggle has been long and arduous, characterized by conflicts and violence that have claimed countless lives. But through it all, the Moro people have remained steadfast in our pursuit of peace and self-determination.

Today, we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors, who have left us a legacy of resilience, perseverance, and hope. We must continue their work and strive to build a better future for ourselves and future generations.

Our youth are the future of our nation. It is crucial that the youth would understand our history in order to gain a deeper appreciation of our struggles and aspirations, and become proactive problem-solvers who can contribute to the betterment of our society.

But our work is not done. We must continue to strive for peace and prosperity, guided by the principles of justice, equality, respect for human rights, and Moral Governance. We must build bridges of understanding and cooperation with our one another, and work together towards a common goal of a just and equitable society.

Let us always celebrate our history and identity as Bangsamoro people, and recommit ourselves to the pursuit of peace and self-determination. Let us teach our youth the importance of our heritage, and inspire them to become agents of positive change in our society. Together, we can create a better future for ourselves and for future generations.
