GENERAL SANTOS CITY (Feb. 23, 2024) – The Bangsamoro Youth Commission along with various institutions, participated in a two-day Consultation Workshop on the Formulation of Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Implementing Guidelines for BARMM Local Government Units on February 21-22, in this city.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government, the event was aimed to streamline the development of a comprehensive policy, empowering LGUs to effectively address and alleviate violent conflicts and extremism within their respective localities.
Tohammi Abas, MILG LGOO, underscored that ‘the BARMM government is continuously implementing PCVE strategies and policies at the local level, fostering long-term peace and stability in the region.’, aligning with BARMM chief minister’s agenda particularly focusing on peace and development.
The consultation workshop served as a crucial platform for exchanging best practices and knowledge, with the insights gained expected to contribute significantly to the development of PCVE guidelines.
During the activity, representatives from various offices presented their PCVE-related efforts. BYC Public Relations Officer Amirto Agao discussed the salient points of the Bangsamoro Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Secuity.
It is the regional government’s policy that presents strategies for involving young individuals in influencing the development agenda concerning conflict transformation, building community resilience against radicalization and extremism, and promoting youth-led peacebuilding to establish sustainable development.
This collaborative effort underscores the shared commitment of the Bangsamoro Government and its partners to create a safer, more secure environment and pave the way for a future free of armed conflict in the region.
