COTABATO CITY (September 25, 2022) — Accredited youth organizations (AYO) of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) in SPMS Box cluster underwent ‘kumustahan’ and Islamization session on Friday, Sept. 23, at Dapiawan, Datu Saudi-Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur.
The activity formed the third installment of BYC’s series of youth consultations dubbed, “Peace Youth Formation: A Road Kumustahan Sessions with Accredited Youth Organizations.”
BYC Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding said the activity aims to consult the AYOs on the operationalization of their organizations which serves as BYC’s “reflection session” to harvest recommendations for its future youth programs.
The activity also highlighted an Islamization session in which Sheikh Qardhawie Salik, chairman of Union of Muslim Youth Organizations (UMYO), shared inputs on the fundamentals of Islam, reminding the participants to integrate Islamic values into every aspect of their personal and organizational life.
Held at Dapiawan Central Elementary School, the activity was co-facilitated by the SPMS Box United Youth Leaders, a BYC-accredited youth organization operating in Maguindanao’s SPMS Box.
During the activity, the participants were also given refresher inputs on mandates, functions, vision, mission and goals, and programs and services of BYC, as well as on the accreditation policies under the Bangsamoro Youth Commission Accreditation Program (BYCAP).
The SPMS Box is a collective term referring to the contiguous towns of Shariff Aguak, Pagatin (Datu Saudi Ampatuan), Mamasapano, and Shariff Saydona Mustapha, which are vulnerable to armed conflicts.
The activity also provided an avenue for the AYOs to discuss and present the issues and concerns of their organizations, and to identify recommended solutions where BYC can provide interventions.
Held first in Cotabato City, the sessions also continue in other cluster areas of Maguindanao del Sur, Special Geographic Areas of North Cotabato and Lanao del Sur.
Accreditation at BYC serves as the youth organizations’ legal identity and will open opportunities for them to engagements and participation in development-related programs of the Bangsamoro Government and other development partners. (BYC PR Unit/KAA)
