COTABATO CITY (Jan. 18, 2023) — The Office of Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding and several BYC-accredited youth organizations in Cotabato City joined today, January 18, the public consultation on the proposed Bangsamoro Transitional Authority (BTA) Bill No. 29 or the Bangsamoro Electoral Code (BEC).
BYC Commissioner Dunding representing Maguindanao, Cotabato City and Special Geographic Areas (MagCotSGA), along with accredited youth organizations, alumni of the Bangsamoro Youth Parliament and youth champions, has manifested several comments and recommendations to include in the Bill.
Among the recommendations is the inclusion of an anti-dynasty provision and a clearer and stronger provision on anti-turncoatism practices, and the extension of maximum age qualification of youth representative in the Parliament, among others.
The public consultation, which was held at Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, Cotabato City, served as the third leg of the consultation series across the Bangsamoro region being conducted by the BTA’s Committee on Rules to “gather constructive comments and insights” for the finalization of the proposed Bill.
Filed by the Government of the Day, the BEC is a key measure that will outline the structural, functional, and procedural principles for the conduct of the regional elections in the Bangsamoro region.
The first and second rounds of public consultations for BEC were held in Manila, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
Another leg of public consultation will be held tomorrow in Midsayap, North Cotabato, for the constituencies in the Special Geographic Areas of North Cotabato.
BYC provides leadership in the formulation and initiation of regional policies and plans, and in the setting of priorities and direction on youth promotion and development programs and activities. (BYC PR Unit/KAA)
