BARMM youth undergo ESD Training

Bangsamoro youth undergo Training of Trainers for Empowerment through Self-Defense training led by ESD Australia in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, Office of MP Atty. Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba, and partner institutions on Tuesday, May 23 at EM Manor, Cotabato City. 

The activity aims to empower youth through a three-day immersive training experience on personal development through self-discovery and self-defense strategies.

It also intends to educate young people about different types of abuse, how to respond to it, and having sufficient knowledge of self-defense.

The training was first conducted by addressing topics related to violence, coercion, and abuse, also including personal development and empowerment, and trauma response skills.

While also subjecting the youth to non-violent forms of communication and basic self-defense techniques that will serve as a support in critical situations.

Activities were performed through fun games and roleplays, which are proven to promote healing and resiliency through a trauma-informed lens.

The training is funded by the Bangsamoro Attorney General’s Office through Atty. Sha Elijah B. Dumama- Alba. Also in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Sports Commission, and Ministry of Basic and Higher and Technical Education.

ESD Global provides programs worldwide to train community members and leaders to become empowered self-defense instructors so that they can teach ESD in their communities. Instructors work within their social and cultural contexts to ensure that the training is appropriate for different settings. (BYC PR Unit/AAA
