Calis: Don’t study hard, study smart

COTABATO CITY (January 30, 2022) – A Bangsamoro youth topnotcher shares that board exam takers should instead ‘study smart’, and not study hard.

During the 41st episode of the program Bangsamoro YoutHours: “An Avenue for the Youth to Speak”, on Thursday, January 26, Sittie Farhanna Usop Calis, a graduate of Associate in Radiologic Technologist of Notre Dame Hospital and Sienna College of Cotabato shared story of her board exam journey, and provided points to fellow youth who also aspire to be a board examinee topnotcher.

“As an Associate in Radiologic Technologist [graduate], we perform medical exams using X-rays on patients to create images of specific parts of the body, move patients to the correct position, operate the equipment, and provide right amount of radiation to prevent any damage,” describing the nature and functionalities of her degree.

“During my internship days, I experienced scanning parts of the body including the skull, chest, among other parts. These images are then interpreted by a doctor or radiologist for diagnosis and monitoring of disease,” she added.

Calis, during her review days, said she struggled a lot considering being distant from her family, and that the only way made her cope with the situation is having circle of people that provided her with of comfort.

“It was not easy to put into mind all the subjects you have tackled during your academic days. That’s why, I personally prefer to stay on certain place that can help me sustain my momentum. Otherwise, I would only spend my time prattling with my colleagues,” Calis added emphasizing her personal study technique.

Moreover, she highlighted the significance of religious intervention as the main habit that every student should practice.

“Pray, because it’s only the Almighty who can help you and give you success. He knows what’s best for you, and what’s for you will always find you,” she added.

“You also have to condition your mind about your purpose – ask yourself about these sacrifices that you are doing. Another thing is read more frequently, and do not just merely read, you internalize the concepts because questions in the exam are always on a real life and practical scenarios,” adding more details of study techniques.

“Take good care of your health. Get enough rest. Sleep and eat accordingly. Because no matter how many concepts you study if you do not pay attention to the needs of your body, still you won’t be able to attain your goals. And lastly, don’t study hard, instead study smart. What it means is, have an organized way studying. Do not just read and jump off to the next concept, instead focus on a specific topic, master the idea, then proceed once fully understood,” she added.

She also mentioned that her family, especially her aunt that works overseas, provided her with financial assistance to pursue her studies. This what added her motivation to pass the exam, and eventually taking the 7th highest place in 2022 X-Ray Technologist Licensure Examination.

Concluding her talk, she accentuated the importance of “focusing with one’s studies in order to avoid any sort of regrets.”

“Our lecturers used to remind us not to give up. We were often asked as to why we only decide to give up when we are already on the peak of our journey. Thus, we should not be overwhelmed by these pressures. We all meant to surpass the challenges, and attain our goals,” she concluded.
