Region-wide consultations for BAP-YPS formulation conclude in Lanao Sur

COTABATO CITY (September 18, 2023) — The region-wide series of consultations for crafting the Bangsamoro Action Plan on Youth, Peace, and Security (BAP-YPS) concluded on Wednesday, September 13, during a discussion with representatives of local government units (LGU) and the security sector in Lanao del Sur province.

During this final leg of the consultations, held in Marawi City, participants shared their feedback, recommendations, and comments on the plan’s current draft.

The series of consultations, which began in mid-June in Maguindanao and Cotabato City, aimed to gather feedback from various stakeholders, including youth groups, LGUs, the security sector, and civil society organizations, to craft a well-rounded and inclusive YPS action plan that incorporates diverse perspectives.

The formulation of the BAP-YPS is led by a technical working group (TWG) that includes youth leaders as members from various sectors across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) serve as the TWG Secretariat.

The BAP-YPS will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for the Bangsamoro government in outlining the direction for increased Bangsamoro youth participation in conflict resolution, prevention, management, and peacebuilding efforts.

It aims to guide policymakers and service providers in formulating and implementing policies and programs that address YPS issues.

The document is scheduled to be launched to the public in late November after undergoing a series of finalization and validation workshops. (BYC PR Unit/KAA)
