COTABATO CITY (September 25, 2023) — As part of its commitment to empowering the Bangsamoro youth, the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), through the Office of Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding, trained 27 aspiring Sangguinang Kabataan (SK) officials from Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte on September 22-24, to become “partners in realizing Moral Governance.”

In collaboration with Integrated Democracy and Development for Meaningful Progress, Inc., Hirayang Kabataan, and Open Society Foundations, the project dubbed “EMERGE-SK” aims to provide intensive leadership training enhancements, producing next generations of competent SK officials.

BYC Commissioner Nasserudin Dunding said the initiative is a testament to the Bangsamoro Government’s continued commitment to transforming youth as active citizens and partners in realizing the Moral Governance agenda.

“In BYC, we have a high hope that new sets of SK leaders will reach the general expectations of this sector and that is why we are supporting and accompanying your journey towards people-centered and participatory leadership type of governance,” Commissioner Dunding added.

During the three-day training, the participants underwent various structured learning experiences based on the module of “Tara, Takbo” of Hirayang Kabataan aimed at enhancing their practical leadership skills.

Under the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) No. 10, the BYC is mandated to organize trainings, seminars, and workshops that enhance the skills and leadership potential of the youth, instilling in them nationalism and patriotism, with a particular emphasis on Bangsamoro culture and Islamic values.

Another batch of SK official candidates is also set to undergo the same training in early October.

According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) 2023 in the Philippines are scheduled to be held on October 30. (BYC PR Unit/KAA)
